Legality
MAX IV Laboratory, the successor of the national laboratory MAX-lab, is a Swedish national laboratory, hosted by Lund University (Swedish Code of Statutes SFS 1994 946 / SFS 2011 1567).
Lund University is the legal entity of the laboratory.
Until the end of 2015, MAX IV Laboratory included both the operation of MAX-lab (MAX I, II, and III) and the MAX IV – Phase I project. MAX-lab shut down in December 2015, and the MAX IV Laboratory facility was ready to open its doors to staff in January 2016.
The official inauguration of MAX IV Laboratory took place on 21 June 2016.
The formal goals and basic governance of MAX IV Laboratory were set out in an agreement between Lund University (LU), the Swedish Research Council (VR) and VINNOVA (the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems) in June 2010 as well as in a related agreement between Lund University and Region Skåne in July 2010.
Funders
The Swedish Research Council (VR) , VINNOVA, Lund University and Region Skåne are the initial funders of MAX IV. The initial seven beamlines were funded by a grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation in collaboration with the Swedish research universities Lund University, Chalmers University of Technology, Karlstad University, Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Luleå University of Technology, Stockholm University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå University, University of Gothenburg and Uppsala University.
