FemtoMAX offers two different experimental stations that supports x-ray scattering geometries (GIXS, SAXS, WAXS) in a vacuum/air environment. X-ray detectors are available directly mounted on vacuum chamber or on a robot arm.
Available x-ray detectors:
Detector | Energy range [keV] | Pixel size [µm] | Sensor size [mm] | Image bit depth | Achieved readout speed [Hz] |
Dectris Pilatus 1.2 M | 2-20 | 172 | 253 x 142 | 20 | 10 |
Andor Zyla 4.2 M | 2-7 | 6.5 | 16 x 14 | 16 | 10 |
Andor Balor 16.9 M | 2-7 | 12 | 49 x 49 | 16 | 10 |
Andor iKon L 4.2 M | 2-20 | 13.5 | 27 x 27 | 16 | Not ready yet |
Andor Marana 4.2 M | 2-7 | 11 | 22 x 22 | 16 | Not ready yet |
At the sample position we offer a set of wedges for x-ray incidence angles between 0-40 degrees to match Bragg condition. In horizontal direction scattering range limited to +/- 10 degrees.
X-ray photon flux on sample is ~106-107 photons depending on chosen energy ( see table below, ML monochromator, 1% BW).
Energy [keV] | Photons/pulse |
---|---|
4 | 2.2e7 |
8 | 6e6 |
12 | 6e5 |
Vacuum < 10-7 mbar, < 2*10-6 mbar with Pilatus detector connected to GIXS. Monochromators available for users are one InSb double crystal monochromator (DCM) and three multi-layer mirrors (ML) within a range of 1.8-15 keV (up to 20 keV possible with reduced flux). X-ray focus at sample position is 60 µm (FWHM).
The experimental station offers a temperature-controlled sample environment between 20 K – 500 K for solid samples in a grazing angle geometry.
Ultrashort optical pulses (400 nm-1600 nm) and THz pulses generated in organic crystals are available for sample excitation. Peak excitation energies are 6 mJ (800 nm), 1.2 mJ (1200 nm) and 10 µJ (3 THz). The relative timing between the pump and probe pulses is measured with an 80 Gs, 36 GHz oscilloscope and can be post-sorted with an accuracy of < 300 fs (FWHM) and optical cross correlator < 70 fs.
