Fast Access (also known as “Rapid Access”) is intended for projects that require quick access to beamtime at MAX IV, such as testing a sample before submitting a Standard Access proposal.

We aim to provide a prompt decision upon proposal submission. However, response times may vary due to factors such as workload, national holidays and machine shutdown periods.

Use cases

We currently offer two defined use cases for Fast Access

Sample Feasibility

Sample Feasibility allows for preliminary experiments to assess technical feasibility or verify e.g. sample preparation. It is primarily used as a pre-study for a Standard Access proposal.

  • Proposals are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Access to the MAX IV facility is not guaranteed; beamline staff will determine whether the experiment should be conducted via mail-in, remotely, or onsite.

Standard Measurement Services

MAX IV provides fast access for predefined standard measurements, suitable for sets of similar samples with a scope too small for a standard proposal. For more information, please refer to the “Fast Access” page of each available beamline.

  • Proposals are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • This proposal type does not grant access to the MAX IV facility; samples must be handled via mail-in.

Participating Beamlines

Fast Access is available under different conditions at various beamlines. For specific details, please visit the respective beamline site. It is strongly recommended to contact the beamline of interest for further discussions before submitting your proposal.
